Antibacterial and anti-cell proliferation effect
1.Azelaic acid can inhibit or kill anaerobes and aerobic bacteria in the skin. In vivo tests show that topical application of azelaic acid cream for 2 to 3 months can significantly reduce the number of skin bacteria and Propionibacterium hair follicles, indicating that this product has a direct antibacterial effect. In addition, topical application of azelaic acid can reduce the free fatty acid and lipid content of the skin surface. It shows anti-keratinization effect on the skin of normal people or acne patients, and its principle of action is mainly to reduce the synthesis of filamentous keratin, thereby reducing hair follicle hyperkeratosis. Azelaic acid selectively acts on abnormal melanocytes and inhibits their excessive activity. Therefore, topical application of azelaic acid for a long time can reduce the production of skin melanin in patients with age spots.
2.Azelaic acid also has anti-cell proliferation and anti-cytotoxic effects. Its principle of action is mainly through the destruction of mitochondrial respiratory pathways and cellular DNA synthesis. In vitro tests show that azelaic acid can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, Propionibacterium acnes and other aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. At higher concentrations (more than 250mmol) ·L-1), it has a killing effect on the above-mentioned bacteria. Azelaic acid can reduce the flora on the skin surface, hair follicles and sebaceous glands, especially for Propionibacterium acnes and acne dissolution, and for different types of acne Both are valid. Because azelaic acid can inhibit and kill various aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in skin acne. Azelaic acid has become the preferred over-the-counter medicine for the safe treatment of acne.
