Diisooctyl sebacate is an organic compound which is the diester of sebacic acid and 2-ethylhexanol. It is an oily colorless liquid. Diisooctyl sebacate is a new generation of high-grade cosmetic raw materials and fine chemical raw materials. It is a new product with more outstanding quality than isopropyl ester. It is also a good additive for plastics, lubricants, coatings, textiles, printing and dyeing, medicine and other industries. Diisooctyl sebacate is also mainly used as an emollient, softener, penetrant, and solvent.

Diisooctyl sebacate has a lower freezing point, and the production operation in winter is more convenient than IPP. It resists enzymatic breakdown and has antioxidant properties. Diisooctyl sebacate has good compatibility with other cosmetic components. It can be used as a solvent for pigments, vitamins, preservatives, etc.

Diisooctyl sebacateh has the following applications/functions:

1. Diisooctyl sebacate is non-toxic and tasteless, it has good permeability, fluidity, thixotropy, spreadability and slipperiness. And it also has the effect of adding shine. Diisooctyl sebacate has the function of softening the skin. Compared with isopropyl ester, the cosmetic prepared with diisooctyl sebacate has a more delicate appearance and better gloss, and its thixotropy, air permeability, water permeability, softness and safety are also better.

2. Diisooctyl sebacate has better weather resistance and better electrical insulation properties, and is often used in combination with phthalates. It is especially suitable for cold-resistant wire and cable material, artificial leather, film, plate, sheet and other products.

3. Diisooctyl sebacate is an excellent low temperature-resistant plasticizer, commonly used in the technical fields of plasticization of PVC cable materials, cold-resistant films, artificial leather and other resins. 

4. Another important use of diisooctyl sebacate is as a base oil for biomass-based lubricating oils. The base oil can be used as the base oil of jet engine lubricating oil due to its high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance and degradability.
