As an important derivative of erucic acid, erucamide is an excellent fine chemical product with a wide range of applications.

Erucamide is soluble in isopropanol, slightly soluble in alcohol and acetone. In industry, erucamide is used in the formulations of anti-adhesive agents, lubricants, and lubricant additives to reduce their friction coefficient and to make films easier to handle. It is used as a standard to determine fatty acid amides in polyethylene packaging film by GC/MS.

Erucamide is a migratory additive that is commonly placed in polyolefin films to reduce their coefficient of friction (COF), a good attribute for high speed packaging operations.

Erucamide has the following applications/functions:

1. Erucamide is the amide of docosenoic acid. It was first identified in the cerebrospinal fluid of sleep-deprived cats. It has also been detected in the cerebrospinal fluid of rats and humans. 13-Docosenamide causes reduced mobility and slightly lessened awareness in rats, whereas 9-octadecenamide induces physiological sleep.

2. Erucamide is a plasticizer. Erucamide used in preparation of natural mineral modified degradable polymer flame-retardant composite material.

3. Erucamide has a high melting point and good thermal stability (stable at 273 ° C), so it is mainly used as an anti-adhesive and slip agent for various plastics and resins. Erucamide is also used as an excellent lubricant and anti-slip agent for extruded films and static agent.

4. Erucamide is mainly used as slip agent and anti-sticking agent for plastics such as CPP, BOPP, LDPE, LLDPE, EVA, PVC, PVDF, PVDC, PU and metallocene polyethylene. It can significantly reduce the dynamic and static friction coefficient of the surface of the product (film or sheet), improve the ease of processing and the efficiency of packaging operations.

5. Erucamide plays a slippery, anti-adhesion and anti-fouling role in inks, it can delay pigment, filler settling and caking. It can also help redispersion, increase the abrasion resistance, scratch resistance, and surface smoothness of prints, especially to improve its smoothness and anti-adhesion during color printing.
