Ferulic acid was first found in plant seeds and leaves. It is a phenolic acid widely existing in plants. It combines with polysaccharides and proteins to form the skeleton of cell wall in cell wall, and rarely exists in free form. It has high content in ferula, Cimicifuga, Angelica sinensis, wild jujube kernel and other traditional Chinese medicine. It is one of the effective components of these traditional Chinese medicine. Ferulic Acid has the following applications/functions:

1.Ferulic acid can scavenge free radicals.The production of free radicals can accelerate skin aging, wrinkles and the formation of color spots and old-age spots. The antioxidant enzymes and antioxidant branches of the body can eliminate excessive ROS, but the balance is destroyed due to some reasons. The body is in the state of oxidative stress. The intake of oxidant may reverse the stress, protect the cells from the damage of active oxygen, and then prevent or delay the occurrence and development of many chronic diseases. A lot of research shows that ferulic acid has a good antioxidant activity. Ferulic acid can not only scavenge free radicals, but also inhibit and remove enzymes that produce free radicals.

2.Ferulic acid can resist bacteria and inflammation.It was found that ferulic acid had a certain inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and yeast, but had a poor effect on mold. Found that the important monomer ferulic acid can inhibit the replication of PrPSc protein in Scn2a by Western blot, and speculated that the traditional Chinese medicine monomer ferulic acid may play a certain therapeutic role in prion diseases.

3.Ferulic acid can inhibit platelet aggregation induced by collagen and ADP, inhibit the release of serotonin and thromboxane like substances, and selectively inhibit the activity of thromboxane synthase, so as to prevent thrombosis.
