Inhibition of silymarin on lipoxygenase and peroxidase. It is clinically used for the treatment of liver poisoning, liver dysfunction, anti-radiation and hypolipidemic effect.

Ksoottva et al. studied the oxidation of high-cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins by silymarin extract in mice. Mice were fed with polyunsaturated fatty acids and a small amount of saturated fatty acid food containing silymarin extract. In mice with a small amount of saturated fatty acids, the cholesterol content in the serum of the former was significantly reduced, VLDL hair was reduced, and HDL-C increased, indicating that silymarin has improved the ability to resist LDL;
Protective effects of cerebral ischemia
Feng Quan et al. Explored the protective mechanism of silymarin on cerebral ischemic injury in rats by using a four-vascular blockage model of global cerebral ischemia. It was shown that silymarin significantly reduced the infarct size while significantly reducing the content of NO and NOS in the brain tissue of ischemic rats. Therefore, it is concluded that silymarin can improve the antioxidant capacity of the body and has a significant protective effect on cerebral ischemic injury.
