This product is a semi-synthetic derivative of podophyllotoxin, a cycle-specific cytotoxic drug that acts on cells in the late S or early G2 cycle of the cell cycle by preventing cells from entering mitosis. This product also causes DNA single-strand breaks, causing 5 times the number of breaks as Vp-16. The mechanism of action is to inhibit type Ⅰ topoisomerase. The main metabolites are hydroxy acid, picric acid lactone derivatives and its glycosidic groups, in which the sugar groups are active on DNA. 39.5% are excreted in urine and 43.1% are excreted in feces.
