Tallow amine, hydrogenated tallow-alkyl is an 18-carbon primary aliphatic amine. It has a role as a film-forming compound. Tallow amine, hydrogenated tallow-alkyl have a weak pungent ammonia odor. Tallow amine, hydrogenated tallow-alkyl is insoluble in water and its density is less than that of water. So it floats on the water. Contact with it may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It can be toxic if ingested. It is used to make other chemicals. Tallow amine, hydrogenated tallow-alkyl is easily soluble in chloroform, ethanol, ether and benzene. It is basic and can react with acids to produce the corresponding amine salts.
