Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide is an amine oxide based zwitterionic surfactant with a C14 (tetradecyl) alkyl tail. Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide is cationic in acidic medium and non-ionic in alkaline medium. Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide has excellent stability under both acidic and alkaline conditions. Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide has good compatibility with various types of dyes, surfactants and cosmetic raw materials. It is stable to sodium hypochlorite, but it is not suitable to heat it above 100℃ for a long time.
Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide is polar solvents that have a high solubility in water but a poor solubility in most organic solvents. It is electrically neutral but carries positive and negative charges on different atoms in an aqueous solution. Depending on the composition and conditions of pH value, Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide can have anionic or cationic properties. In the presence of acids, it will accept the hydrogen ions but it will donate hydrogen ions to the solution in the presence of bases, which balances the pH. Such actions make buffer solutions which resist change to the pH.

1. In the detergency ability Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide which change its charge according to the pH of the solution affects properties of foaming, wetting and detergentcy through a surface action that exerts both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties.
2. In biochemistry Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide is used as a detergent for purifying, cleansing and antimicrobial effects. Alkylbetains and aminoxides are amphoteric surfactants.
3. Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide is mainly used in shampoos, it can make the hair softer, easier to comb, fine foam and rich in luster.
4. Tetradecyldimethylamine oxide can also be used as a cleaning agent for hard surfaces such as tableware, toilets, and building exterior walls. The addition of tetradecyldimethylamine oxide to the cleaning agent will thicken, reduce irritation and synergize.
