Contact with it may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It may be toxic if ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. (Z)-N-9- octadecenylpropane- 1,3-diamine is used to make other chemicals.

(Z)-N-9-octadecenylpropane-1,3-diamine is a fatty diamine (a polyamine), used as a catalyst for urethanes and epoxies, surfactant (e.g., in gasoline), emulsifier (for asphalt, car undercoatings), ore flotation agent, an anti-settling agent or a dispersant (e.g., in paints), as anti-fouling or anti-scaling additive, as a corrosion inhibitor, in adhesives, as a lubricant (weaker than soaps but relatively insensitive to cationic impurities), in sealants, as a processing aid and an intermediate. In some applications, its bacteriostatic properties are of value.

1. (Z)-N-9-octadecenylpropane-1,3-diamine can be used as an antistatic agent. The surface of the polymer material can be given a certain lubricity, reduce the friction coefficient, inhibit and reduce the generation of static electricity.
